Key Systems Simulated

Checklist item triggers & flows

Propeller Brake (Hotel Mode on Engine #2)
Hydraulically locks the right propeller while the turbine core runs, supplying AC electrical power and bleed air on ground without an APU.
Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC)
Automates power management, power plant ratings (RTO, 100% TO, MCT, CRZ), and auto-feathering in the event of engine failure.
Multipurpose Computer (MPC) & Thales Avionics
Full glass flight deck with dual FMS, electronic checklist (ECL), terrain display, and digital engine performance monitoring.
Pneumatic De-Icing Boots & Structural Ice Protection
Inflatable rubber boots on wing leading edges, horizontal stabilizer, and engine air intakes for severe icing conditions.
PILOT KNOWLEDGE BASE & DOSSIER

CHIEF INSTRUCTOR BRIEFING & OPERATIONAL NOTES

Always disengage the mechanical flight control gust lock before taxiing and perform the full control deflection check. Be especially vigilant regarding airspeed during icing encounters; maintain red icing bug minimum speeds at all times.

AIRCRAFT TRIVIA & HIGHLIGHTS
1FACT #1

The ATR does not have an Auxiliary Power Unit (APU). Instead, it uses "Hotel Mode" – the right engine runs while a mechanical brake locks the propeller from turning.

2FACT #2

It is the most fuel-efficient regional aircraft on routes under 300 nautical miles, consuming up to 45% less fuel than equivalent regional jets.

3FACT #3

Passenger boarding on the ATR is done exclusively through the aft door, which is why ground crews place a tail prop support stand under the rear fuselage during loading to prevent tipping!
